RECRUITING
Royal Canadian Air Cadets participate in a variety of fun and challenging activities. There is something for everyone – no matter what their personal interests may be. The program focuses on personal and social development, decision-making and leadership. As cadets acquire skills and knowledge, they are also provided with the opportunity to put it to practice. The program is open to anyone aged 12-18.
Some of the Local Training includes:
– Survival Skills – Physical Fitness and Sensible Living
– Music
– Building model aircraft
– Introduction to the various Tools and Technologies linked to Aviation
– Canadian History & Democracy
– Learning about and shooting Daisy Air Rifles
– Drill – Effective Speaking
– Radio Communication
– Leadership
Cadets are also provided with the opportunity every summer to attend Summer Training. Cadets go away to various Canadian Forces Bases on the courses they apply for. Course lengths vary from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. As a Senior Cadet, they have the opportunity to go be leaders on these very same Summer Courses. As an added bonus for cadets taking Summer Training, they will receive a monetary bonus!
Two of the summer training courses are the Glider Pilot Training Course and the Power Pilot Training Course. Each year, a selected amount of cadets are provided the opportunity to advance in their aviation studies and attain their Glider Pilot’s License or their Private Power Pilot’s License. How much does the cadet have to pay for this? Absolutely NOTHING! (The cadet actually gets paid to go on the course if they qualify!)
